Embrace the mullet: VaynerSports’ Justin Giangrande discusses new style of sports agency

Today on The Raheel and Del Show, the guys got the chance to interview Justin Giangrande, the VP of VaynerSports. Serial entrepreneur and four-time New York Times best-selling author Gary Vaynerchuk (he’s everywhere these days) and his brother and long-time business partner AJ started VaynerSports just over a year ago to shake up the sports agency game, specifically in the NFL. They saw the need for a company that worked to bring value to their client athletes both on and off the field. The average NFL career lasts 2.6 years, and the agents and marketers at Vaynersports don’t shy away from this fact, but instead understand the value of pushing an athlete’s personal brand.

Giangrande excitedly rattled off the seven new VaynerSports signees in the 2018 NFL Draft, including both Sooner DT and freak athlete Du’Vonta Lampkin and Miami kicker phenom Michael Badgley. When asked if VaynerSports had encouraged Badgley to cut off his long-standing mullet for a more professional appearance, Giangrande rather touted the mullet as “one of the perks of signing him.” VaynerSports understands the new professional sports landscape, and they view Badgley’s flow bucket as a valuable part of his confident image. In fact, that soon-to-be-iconic mullet might just be the perfect symbol of VaynerSports’ company philosophy: they mean business, but they’ll still have a good time while they’re at it. Embrace the mullet. It’s 2018.
